My Career

When I was kid, I thought that being a farmer, a dancer or an artist would be interesting. I really wanted to live a simple life.

When I was entering my teenager, I was very much interested in plants and animals. I also enjoyed learning people culture and values. I took Biology Department when I was in my high school, hoping I could be a good biologist or an anthropologist.
The fact that I was accepted in one of the State College and that was for English and Literature Department. My whole dreams changed!

Raised in a big family, my father always showed me how to work hard and to be independent. While struggling to learn the English subject, I was trying to find as many opportunity as possible to support my own life. I sold newspaper, wrote an article on the local newspaper, doing translation services and also giving private English Courses…

Thank God that I received government scholarship since I was in my 3rd Semester. In addition to attending the classes, I pushed myself to have as many networking friends as possible. I enjoyed attending English Club, Drama Assosciation …and also unoficial Art Community Club. Until I finally joined two big English Courses in town and being the full time Instructor.
My direction changed when I was hired by first international hotel chain to open in Semarang. I was hired as English Instructor for nearly 2 years. From this point, I know the world of hospitality…the career world that I am in until these days.

The hospitality world suits me in the sense that there are values that fit to mine. Helping others, being courteous…among the values that I believe in. And that’s what my parents and my villagers always showed me.

With this pre opening hotel, I had the opportunity to learn not only the operations but also the planning side and the system. I worked with Human Resources Department on day to day basis, and was quite fortunate to have the Front Office, Food and Beverage as well as Finance Exposure.

My first official career was when I joined The Five Star Diamond Boutiqe Hotel in Surabaya. This was indeed one of my best career periods. I was interviewed for Training Manager Position and had to do two presentation. One for Staff and One for Key Management. Later I also found out that my superior in previous hotel also went for the interview but I was the one appointed for the post.

I had a really good superior and very great General Manager. For almost 3.5 years I stayed with the property(the longest work period ever), the hotel invested valuable development on me. They did mentoring system, paying scholarship and implemented clear career tracks. I started with Training Officer, being Training Manager after 1 year ( When I was 25 years old)and following Employee Relations and Training Development Manager. I had lots of opportunity to actualize myself professionally( I was once in charged as GYM Manager as well). I loved Surabayan who were direct, honest and dynamic…

Soon I shifted my career to the east part of Indonesia, to the heavenly island of Lombok! I joined one of the leading hotels of the world resort. This is in fact the first time I was officially in charged as Head of Department. I was a 27 year old Human Resources Manager of the best resort in the area. I learnt much on how to deliver personalized and high standard of service. Lombok people are owesome!

From Lombok I went to Bandung joining the best International chain property. Being Director of Human Resources when I was 29 years old, I enjoyed learning a well established system and strong drive of this well known group. This was also good year until I decided to go home to take care of my mom as she had serious diabetic complexion.
While going back home, I joined International Chain hotel in the center of Yogyakarta for the same position. I was fortunate to have a good leader. I had the opportunity to enroll the career development for the position of Executive Assistant Manager. I felt home already and attached myself to my past.

Just right after my mom passed away, I moved to Jakarta in 2007 and assumming Regional Director of Human Resources, Indonesia for fast growing International Hotel Group. I travelled frequently to Indonesia areas from west to East, performing the audit and management development.

I moved to Maldives for some reasons…my first time ever exposure in overseas. Joining the pre opening team of luxury resort with mixed of 15 nationalities…
